Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics

Urban Decay Ultimate Basics

Urban Decay, stop taking all of our money. Please, stop it, stop it now. Why have you, yet again, given give an all-in-one, matte, cool and warm toned, twelve color eyeshadow palette to drain our bank account and take up space on our vanity? WHY?!

Urban Decay has brought us what has been missing in the Naked palettes all along, a range of matte shadows to compliment a range of skin tones from the fairest of fair to darker skin tones. This neutral palette is able to complete an all-matte look in one package. The colors included within are versatile and can easily be paired up with one of your favorite pressed, liquid or loose, shimmers and glitters to create the look you want.

Getting right into the palette, the shades are pigmented, PIGMENTED! Yes, the shades are all so highly pigmented you do need to be cautious on application. If applying the "right" amount these shades are beautiful and blendable, not to mention buildable. But, (there is always a but) if you apply too much the shades become incredibly difficult to blend. Use caution and a light hand with your brush in the palette and all will be right with the world, and your look!

The biggest complaint with this palette is the packaging! Of all things, the packaging. At first glance, the packaging looks solid and luxe from a distance. Once you get closer and get the product in your hand, immediately you notice how cheap and flimsy the packaging truly is. One quick grab by your kid and this palette is done and over with. (What?! You know that if a packing wont be able to survive an enthusiastic 5 year old, there is something wrong with it!)

Do I think you need these shades in your makeup arsenal? Yes. Do I think you need this palette to achieve that? Not at all.

While I do love Urban Decay (All Nighter setting spray for the win) the Naked palettes, don't excite or inspire me much at all. Yes, you can create some really nice looks with the palettes, but you can achieve those same looks with much lower priced items. The Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette retails for $54.

Don't misunderstand, this palette is nice, the colors are pigmented and it wears well throughout the day. I don't enjoy spending that much money on a palette that I can get from a company like BH Cosmetics, or Makeup Revolution, for much, much cheaper.

If you are interested in purchasing the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette, you can purchase it at Sephora, Ulta and the Urban Decay website
