Urban Decay Naked palette

Urban Decay Naked Palette

The original!

Self: "Babe, look Santa put Naked under the tree!"
Husband: "Excuse me? Did you say you are naked under the tree?!"
Self: "Eyeshadow, priorities babe..."

There is something about the Urban Decay Naked palette that strikes a cord with makeup lovers everywhere. Urban Decay changed the game when it released the bronze hued, all-in-one eyeshadow palette. With a combination of matte, shimmer, sparkle and satin finishes, this palette can give you endless options for a complete eye look. Want a beachy, bronzed goddess look, got it. Want a vampy, dramatic look, can do that too.

But, here is the thing with this palette, for $54 it may not really be worth it. Let me tell you why...

Starting off, first impressions, the packaging is nice and the color selection is incredibly wearable, versatile and neutral. You get two matte shades, nine shimmer shades (two of which have micro-glitter and one with sparkle) and one satin finish.
The formula, honestly, is perplexing. When swatching the shadows (photo of swatches below,), they feel creamy and lush, but when applying the shadows to the eyes with a brush, they feel almost dry and slightly rough. The pigment of the shades is decent, like your average eyeshadow. The sparkle/shimmer/satin are dreams on application. Although they are dry feeling, it was blendable, buildable and, above all, gorgeous on the lid. The matte shades left me wanting more. They were patchy and required too much effort in blending and building to get the look that was desired.

The expectations were set incredibly high for this palette. The amount of fans and stellar reviews on the original Naked palette really make it seem like the holy grail of neutral eyeshadow palettes. Unfortunately, this palette did not impress me. For the price of $54, the shadows should be able to make me look like a supermodel, do my laundry and my dishes. There are a plethora of Naked dupes for less than half of the price of the Urban Decay original. The brand W7 make's an almost EXACT replica of Naked, for $10. W7 In the Buff: Lightly Toasted palette applies similarly to Urban Decay, but with one major difference, a $44 savings! If you absolutely have to have Urban Decay's Naked palette, go for it! But, if you are like me, go for a lesser priced dupe, save yourself some coin and spend the money you saved on a cup of coffee and a manicure - after you do your makeup of course!

XOXO
