Not my precious makeup!

It happens to all of us. You know what I am talking about. The bone chilling sound of makeup hitting the floor. The world starts to move in slow motion, the makeup seems to move faster than you can and then it happens, CRASH.

Makeup, meet floor.

When did you ever think something as tiny as broken makeup can simultaneously take your breath away and break your heart in a single moment?

Here is the thing about it though, powder makeup can be fixed! Yes, it can, I promise you. There is one exception to the “you can fix your broken makeup” thing though. I do promise you that if you have a toddler who digs into your makeup like a sugar-hyped kid on Halloween and, literally, takes a bite...you can not fix that, I assure you.

First thing first when attempting the precarious journey of repairing your broken makeup, wipe the tears from your eyes. No use in trying to fix it if you can't see through the tears!

Second, gather your makeup and all your nerve because what you need to do, now, is crush up the remaining powder pieces into as close to a fine powder as you can. Typically for this step you can use the back of a makeup brush or a cotton swab, I personally prefer a cotton swab.

Once the remaining product is finely crushed, pat the powder down with either your cotton swab, back of a spoon, something clean and flat. The purpose of pushing the product down is to repress the powder back into the pan to allow for the original use. When you are done pressing the powder down, you will need to take rubbing alcohol (yes, the rubbing alcohol that you have under your bathroom sink for the last few years and never knew what to do with) and very lightly apply the rubbing alcohol to the makeup. You can either gently drizzle some rubbing alcohol onto the pan or if you have a clean spray bottle, spray the surface of the powder. (Here is an extra tip - you know those mini-spray bottles that you see at the $0.99 store and in Home Goods? Grab one of those, fill it with rubbing alcohol and you now have the perfect item to not only help repair broken makeup, but also sanitize your powder makeup products as well!)

Now that you have applied the rubbing alcohol to the product, step away. You heard me, back away from the makeup. Let it dry several hours or overnight, and then VOILA you have a nicely repaired, gorgeous, ready to use piece of makeup! Feel free to use a tiny little bit of the rubbing alcohol to clean up any product residue on the edges of the pan/palette.

Hopefully, the Makeup God’s never allow this horrendous situation of broken makeup to fall into your life. But, if it does, you are now equipped with the tools to make the world right again.

XOXO
